Treatments for Your Family
The health of your teeth and mouth is vital for the well-being of your entire body. While routine brushing and flossing at home are necessary to help maintain your smile, visiting your dentist for a comprehensive exam and cleaning is essential.
- Your Exam
The American Dental Association Click to go to the The American Dental Association page recommends that you visit your dentist every six months to ensure your teeth stay healthy and your smile stays beautiful.
During your exam, Dr. Almunajed Click to read more about the Dr. Husam Almunajed will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other health problems.
He may also want to take x-rays to observe what is happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums. The images provided will help your dentist discover dental issues not visible to the naked eye.
- Professional Cleanings
We believe a healthy smile is the strongest foundation for a beautiful smile. Therefore, your periodontal care is our utmost priority.
By customizing your cleanings, we can adequately care for your specific periodontal (gums and bone) needs. Whether you are receiving a six-month cleaning, or full periodontal therapy, we will always strive to provide outstanding treatment while maintaining your absolute comfort.
- Teeth cleaning
This treatment removes dental plaque and tartar (mineralized plaque) from teeth to prevent cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease. Severe gum disease causes at least one-third of adult tooth loss. Therefore, teeth cleaning (prophylaxis) is extremely important to aid in removing tartar in areas that are difficult to reach in routine tooth brushing.
Professional cleaning includes tooth scaling and tooth polishing, and debridement if too much tartar has accumulated. This involves the use of various instruments or devices to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth. More frequent cleanings and examinations may be necessary during the treatment of dental and other oral disorders.
- At Home Care
Between cleanings, practice good oral hygiene to prevent cavities, tartar build-up, and gum disease. You don’t have to lose teeth to periodontal disease, and by practicing good oral hygiene at home, you can significantly reduce your chances of ever getting gum disease.
Remember to brush regularly, clean between your teeth, eat a balanced diet, and schedule regular dental visits to help keep your smile healthy.
- Benefits
By routinely seeing Dr. Almunajed for exams and cleanings, you can:
- Prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath
- Save money by avoiding costly and extensive dental procedures
- Keep your teeth white by reducing staining from food and drinks
- Shorten the time spent in your dentist’s office
- Have a smile that will last a lifetime
Did you know that gum disease affects 75% of adults at some point in their lives and remains a leading cause of tooth loss today?
If it has been a few years since your last cleaning and you are experiencing sore, inflamed, or bleeding gums, it may be time for you to be evaluated for a deep cleaning (scaling and root planing).
- Signs of Periodontal Disease
- Continuous bleeding when brushing and flossing
- Foul odor to your breath not freshened by mouthwash
- Red, puffy, inflamed gums that lack a healthy, stippled appearance
- Large black triangles between your teeth (representing bone loss)
- Deep pockets where food and bacteria get caught beneath your gums
- Why a Deep Cleaning?
Some patients require more than routine preventative tooth and gum cleaning. Deep cleanings can help alleviate many dental health problems by removing soft or hardened plaque from under the gum line, facilitating the healing of gums, preventing tooth and bone loss, and the spread of gum disease.
- What To Expect
After your full examination and routine dental prophylaxis are completed, accompanied by a full set of dental radiographs and full mouth pocket depth assessment, you will be scheduled to start your quadrant scaling and root planing.
We usually suggest splitting the procedure into either two or four appointments, but you and Dr. Husam will discuss the details and customize your treatment together. After complete local anesthesia is achieved, a combination of ultrasonic instruments and hand scalers will be used to gently and efficiently rid your teeth of this harmful buildup.
The procedure typically lasts 45 minutes per quadrant (quarter of your mouth), and we will take all the necessary steps to ensure your comfort during the entire process.
- In Between Appointments
If broken up into two separate appointments, Dr. Almunajed will prescribe a medicated mouth rinse proven to improve your tissues’ healing in the week between your appointments.
- Next Step
Once your treatment is completed, your recall will consist of an appointment in three months to assess pocket-depth reduction, the overall health of your tissue, and home maintenance.
We suggest you stay on a three-four month recall for routine dental cleanings until all bacteria is removed, your home care has improved, and pockets have decreased to a manageable depth.
Don’t worry; we will guide you through every step of the way, and your gums will THANK YOU for this.
